unique and wonderful experience was when our city guide recognized a
local celebrity just going about her business on the streets of Siena – Rosanna Bonelli (aka Diavola
Rompicollo
– devil dare devil)
a former jockey who was the first woman since 1581 to run the famous
horse race - the Palio ofSiena.
How cool was that?
She was so very
nice and allowed us to take photos.
She said she was also nicknamed
“break neck” for both her speed and her daring.
She is now 81
years old I believe - or so my math tells me based on the date of
birth Wikipedia gives – 1934. Thanks Wikipedia!
Note: I had hoped to see a Siena celebrity - Alessandro Safina - a pop/tenure who's very dramatic Italian music I love! Check out his "Luna" on Utube! But I'm still thrilled to have met Rosanna too.
