Seville, Spain
Travel memory:
In Seville we did have torrential rains. The heavens opened and all
that. In the pictures you will see us sheltering in some shop
doorways etc.
Travel memory:
It was in Seville where we had, in my opinion, our only 'dud' of a
local guide. He met us and then we walked no longer than 5 minutes
when he declared a 'break time' for 15 minutes.
Hmmmm????? Deal
with the shop keepers?
This is even
more suspicious when he particularly asked us if the shop keepers
were good about letting us shelter there after not
showing up again for 40 minutes!
I exaggerate not. Tour member T.J.
commented on it wondering whether he had nipped away to go for a
beer.
Our wonderful
Antonio wasn't around to keep things going either – he was involved
on an errand of mercy accompanying one of our tour members to the
pharmacy to translate and ensure the medicine needed was obtained.
THEN the tour
guide was curt and tart with another one of our group when she
mentioned we hadn't needed a break only 5 minutes after starting,
etc.
Anyway, my only
complaint. (I don't think this tour guide did well when it came to
tips.)
Travel memory: After the tour of the Seville Cathedral we could choose to
either return to the hotel for the afternoon or stay in the downtown,
historical area for more sightseeing. The rain was pounding down
BUT:
Plucky fellow
tour member Darlene, older than myself and who had earlier in the
tour fallen and hurt her leg, turned to me and say brightly, “Are
you still game?”
In light of her
motivation and energy, how could I say not?
In any case, I
didn't want to. After all, I am not in Seville every day.
Who cares if it
rains?
“YES, I”M
GAME!”
Surprisingly
only 5 of us in total decided to stay and explore. Kathy and Richard
also thought along the same lines saying they wanted to make the most
of their trip here. Cleopatra also stayed in town. We all wanted to
see the Seville Alcázar palace complex.
Later Darlene
and I also visited the General Archives of the Indies, the little
movie very interesting.
And do you know
the rain stopped for the most part. Except, that is it returned
during our wait for Antonio. He had graciously returned with
Fernando, our bus driver to take us back to the hotel. Above and
beyond what is required, I believe.
See next post
for the Alcázar pictures.
In these
pictures – we hovering in the rain, peeking into a few garden
courtyards as well as a few pictures from the park near our hotel.
